To inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and detour (D= Discover; E = Experience; Tour) more.
To build a visual platform to share my adventures through photography and writing. My intention is to help guide others to create their own L.A. adventure plans with unique ideas for exploring, helpful tips, information on costs, and the history of places both locals and tourists visit.
"Detour L.A." encompasses my slogan (D= Discover; E = Experience; Tour) and also resonates with me because: 1) My adventures typically come with a detour or two (finding your way around L.A. can be tricky, and getting lost is something I've become quite good at!). And 2) As a euphemism for life. Detours, or unexpected situations that veer us off our route, happen. Life has twists, wrong turns, dead ends, road closures, construction zones...you catch my drift. With some detours unable to avoid, we (sometimes with the help & support of others) can become empowered to hop on the road to resilience. In the words of Carl Jung, "I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become."
Hi! I'm Jordan. Since I was a young girl, I've had a love for exploring, photography, writing, and creating. I have my Bachelors degree in Communication, Masters degree in Counseling, and work full-time in L.A. I am incredibly passionate about my line of work (I have worked in the field of non-profit & education for 10+ years), but in my mid-twenties I was given the advice to take on a hobby and create something outside of/completely unrelated to work, as an act of self-care and to have a creative outlet. This blog, that I created in 2016, allowed me to practice photography, write creatively, research the city I live in, and (hopefully) inspire others to make more time for adventures, self-care, and FUN. As I write this today in 2024, I'm now married, a mom of two, still working full-time, and serve as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster youth in LA county, so I am not able to dedicate time to this project like I used to (my last post was in 2020 - wow, time flies!). I decided to keep this blog live as it's still getting hits and clicks (hi, readers!) and hope this will live on as a helpful guide for those visiting LA for the first time. Adventure on, my friends!

I hope this will be a helpful resource as you plan your trip to L.A. or to simply inspire you to explore more of your own city (...and to try to overcome the detours along the way).
