Delve into a world of curiosity where seeing is disbelieving. KURIOS will immerse you in a mysterious and fascinating realm that disorients your senses and challenges your perceptions, leaving you to wonder: "Is it real, or just a figment of my imagination?"
Something on my life bucketlist – not just on my Los Angeles bucketlist – for a very long time has been to see a Cirque du Soleil show. I love being entertained (but really, who doesn’t?) and am a huge fan of concerts, shows, plays, and performances of all types! Cirque du Soleil in particular is something that has always interested me because it’s recognized world-wide as producing extremely creative, imaginative, emotional, mesmerizing, and mind-blowing performances. I find it fascinating that each circus-inspired show is different and has its own unique theme and imaginative storyline. The shows include a mixture of live music, magic, comedy, dancers, actors, mind-bending contortionists, and so much more. Cirque du Soleil is well-known all over, especially in good ol’ Viva Las Vegas, as being an amazing entertainment experience for all ages to enjoy. The performance company even has a star on the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard! When I heard from multiple sources that that Dodger Stadium was hosting a Cirque du Soleil show during its off-season, I knew I had to find out what the hype was all about. First of all, how cool of a performance location is Dodger Stadium?! Before heading to the show, I figured the performance would take place in the actual stadium and thought, where the heck would the acrobats hang from?! But, to my surprise, the show was located in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium in an actual circus tent and not in the stadium itself. My boyfriend and I loved this because it felt like we were at a traditional, old time circus. Walking into the gigantic and beautiful blue and yellow tent made us feel like we were back in the early 1900’s where circuses were one of the world’s most captivating sources of entertainment. In the main lobby, we grabbed cocktails from the bar, a warm pretzel, and peanut m&m’s, and then headed into performance tent. Our seats were awesome and we had a perfect view of the stage. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect from KURIOS but I had a feeling it would be an incredible show. Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS website explains: “Reality is relative. There is a world of curiosities to unravel. The show is a mysterious and fascinating realm that disorients your senses and challenges your perceptions. Step into the curio cabinet of an ambitious inventor who defies the laws of time, space and dimension in order to reinvent everything around him. Suddenly, the visible becomes invisible, perspectives are transformed, and the world is literally turned upside down.” Overall, we were totally blown away by the performances, and not a few minutes went by that we weren’t ooh-ing and ahh-ing out loud. From incredible gymnastics, to impressive trapeze acts, to the costume design and make up, to the overall story line and traditional circus feel, it was a great first time Cirque du Soleil experience for both my boyfriend and I. The music choices throughout the show were perfect (you can purchase the soundtrack after the show if interested), the various acts captivating in their own unique way, and the actors did a great job at interacting with the crowd and keeping us all entertained. Oh, and I’m still trying to figure out how some of the performers can bend their bodies like they do…Yikes! This show turned me into a total Cirque du Soleil fan, and I can’t wait for my next Cirque experience. I experienced the city I adore from a completely new perspective last weekend - from above! Since moving to LA and falling in love with this city, it’s been on my bucket list to experience the city from a bird's eye view on a helicopter. I had never before flown in a helicopter so didn’t know exactly what to expect, but I was surprised at how much I LOVED flying through the sky! The views were obviously incredible and the journey felt like I was sitting on a cloud, floating through the (sorta smoggy) beautiful So Cal sky. The ride was pretty gentle and I didn’t feel nervous or uncomfortable at any point throughout the flight. My first time in a helicopter was such a surreal experience, and I love reliving this afternoon by looking at some of the pictures posted above.
My best friend Liz and I went on Elite Helicopter’s VIP Helicopter Tour – because very important ladies need a very important tour ;). Elite’s website shares, “If you’re looking for an amazing ride and a chance to see all of Hollywood, Downtown L.A., Santa Monica and more, our VIP Helicopter Tour is the perfect choice for you. Nowhere else can you see all of these amazing landmarks on one fantastic ride and a chance to witness how diverse the terrain of Los Angeles really is.” About a 45 ride through the Los Angeles sky, we were able to enjoy views of the Santa Monica mountains, Malibu’s coastline and Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu Pier, Santa Monica Pier and coastline, The Getty Center, Downtown L.A. (my favorite part by far!!!), Griffith Park Observatory, Hollywood Sign, Universal Studios, and so much more. Experiencing Los Angeles from this new and exciting perspective allowed me to adopt an even greater appreciation for the unique beauty of our city. From the Pacific coastline to the downtown skyscrapers to the hills of Hollywood, our city is so incredibly diverse and truly offers something special for everyone. I will absolutely #FlyWithElite in Los Angeles again but hope to fly during sunset next time! If you’re looking for an adventure in the sky, I would most definitely only recommend flying with Elite! I had SO much fun taking over West Hollywood's official instagram @VisitWeHo this past week and wanted to share with you my posts below...Enjoy! I got word afterward that it was their most successful Instagram takeover yet, and for that I am so incredibly grateful! Thank you WeHo for giving me the opportunity to share this vibrant Los Angeles neighborhood through the New Girl's eyes!
My style is pretty simple and comfort is always key because I'm always on the go, but I do love adding pops of color or sparkle to my outfits with jewelry and accessories. I’m also very low maintenance when it comes to fashion and don't like spending time shopping (I buy almost everything online these days). Sooo... you can't begin to imagine how excited I was when I stumbled upon Rocksbox! Rocksbox gives you a super easy - and affordable - way to add a touch of designer glitz & glam to any outfit. Basically, Rocksbox gives you unlimited access to rent from a constantly changing closet of designer jewelry. It's a membership-based service, and members pay a flat rate of $19/month to get access to a personalized rotating closet of designer jewelry, sent in sets of three at a time. How great is that? I am here to not only share how you can get in on the fun, but to also give you your first month absolutely F-R-E-E. Check out my first Rocksbox items below! With so many creative and talented influencers and bloggers in West Hollywood (WeHo), you can't imagine how excited I was to be asked to be The L.A. Tourism Board @DiscoverLA's WeHo ambassador for the #LANeighborhoods project. I am so happy to call WeHo home and had the opportunity to share this vibrant LA neighborhood through my eyes on @DiscoverLA's instagram account. See the images and captions I chose below: A huge thank you to the LA Tourism Board @DiscoverLA for my Instagram takeover! I'm feeling so grateful for social media's ability to bring the community together and share our love for the City of Angels.
Are event highs a real thing? Because I’m pretty sure I’m still vibing from The Street Art House’s opening last night. I’m stoked to blog about an exciting event I was able to attend in the beautiful LA neighborhood Marina Del Rey. The Street Art House, a pop-up gallery that aims to “bring street art indoors,” opened last night and features 10 of LA’s most talented street artists - including Christina Angelina, Rolland Berry, Calen Blake, FISHE, Hagop, Colette Miller, HANS WALØR and Wrdsmth. According to The Street Art House website, “The Street Art House attempts to raise awareness for public art and the need for artists to express themselves in the urban art scene. This inaugural group show explores street art and its evolution, as well as, its influence on Los Angeles and the surrounding area.” The pictures I took above feature both Wrdsmth and Colette Miller – the two collections that I was practically drooling over. If you live in LA, chances are you’ve seen either some of Colette’s angel wings or Wrdsmth’s inspiring (and at times, pretty witty and funny) quotes around the city.
I’m a huge lover and supporter of street and urban art (click here to see the street art I’ve discovered and featured on my blog so far), so I appreciated having the opportunity to learn more about the artists themselves and the incredible work they create around the city I love. Not only did I have a fun time at this event mingling and viewing the exhibits (and wanting to bid on everything…), but I am so excited that I got to meet and have a lovely conversation with the ever-inspiring Colette Miller – the artist behind the Global Angel Wings Project! Colette started The Global Angel Wings Project in 2002 to remind humanity that there is enough anger and bitterness on this planet and that we can be the “Angels of the Earth.” How incredible is that? She's painted wings in locations all over the world, and the wings represent love, peace, kindness, hope, and compassion. I’m all about the positive vibes in life and think we need to spread them in any way we can…Colette just decided to get a bit more creative than some of us! Click here to see a recent blog post of mine featuring two of her wing locations in LA. Colette was such a kind woman to give me a few moments of her evening. I shared with her all about my appreciation for her world-wide project, a little about my blog, and that I’m on a mission to find each of the wing locations in LA. I’m really looking forward to sharing the rest of them on social media & my blog in the near future to help spread the word about this project. I believe as human beings, we truly can be the angels of this earth and can make an effort every day to lead by example – by being continuously kind and compassionate and sharing the love wherever we go. Los Angeles is such a vibrant and colorful city that I am pretty darn stoked to be living in. Events like last night’s not only make me appreciate urban art and street artists more, but also make me feel inspired to continue creating things in life. The Street Art House pop-up gallery will only be on display until September 2, so if you want to go, you need to go SOON! Click here for more information on the event and to RSVP. If you live in Los Angeles, appreciate street art, and want to support some amazing local artists – this is the perfect event for you this weekend! The gallery is located at Q Art Gallery: 480 Washington Blvd., Marina Del Rey, CA 90292. Special shout out you to my friend Andrea for taking some great pics of me and Colette and for inviting me to this event I won’t be forgetting anytime soon! Thank you, thank you, thank you! |
